Read the World: a daily geography game from Wikipedia
Read the World is a free daily geography game built from Wikipedia. Every day we pick one mystery country and show you the 5 Wikipedia articles people there read the most yesterday. Work out which country it is in 6 guesses or fewer.
Every country reads Wikipedia differently. One day the top articles might be a football club, a local singer and a national holiday; the next day they might be an election, a royal wedding or a famous film. Each daily puzzle is a small window into what a real country was curious about, and each game takes just a few minutes.
How to play the daily geography game
Read the five Wikipedia article titles, then type a country to make a guess. Each wrong guess tells you how far away the answer is, which direction it lies in, and whether your guess shares a border with it. After three wrong guesses, the continent is revealed. A new puzzle comes out every day at 00:00 UTC, and you can share your result with friends without spoilers.
Frequently asked questions
Where does the Wikipedia data come from?
Each puzzle is built from the public Wikimedia Pageviews data, which counts how many times every Wikipedia article was read. We use the Wikipedia edition in the country's main language, so the chart reflects that country.
Is Read the World free?
Yes. The game is free, needs no account, and saves your streak and stats on your own device. Read the World is not affiliated with Wikipedia. You can read more on our privacy page.
